Planning
With the Neighbourhood Plan in place, we monitor Planning Applications to ensure they comply with it, in particular the Design Codes. The Design Codes are especially important as they provide guidance and good practice relating to the design of any proposed building - shaping the character of the Village for the future.
While we check smaller applications, such as extensions etc, our focus is on the bigger applications where the impact on the Village could potentially be felt the most. There are currently three sites where no Planning Applications have been submitted so far, but we are keeping a watchful eye on the following and will be in contact with registered members as and when applications appear:
Barbara Clark House
This is the empty site at the mini roundabout opposite the cemetary (next to Lodge Brothers). The land is owned by RBC, the original building demolished 5 years ago and so far (despite several failed sales), there is currently no buyer. One of the provisions for the site is that any developer must assign it to affordable homes.
Former Birchlands Care Home
The site of the former care home on Barley Mow Road is owned by Surrey County Council.
Despite our pleas for the design to be modified to fit in more appropriately with the style of the rest of the road, Surrey CC have approved their own unmodified design. On the plus side is a commitment to install a pedestrian crossing on St Judes Road at the junction of Barley Mow Road
Kingswood
The former RHUL buildings at the bottom of Coopers Hill Lane are now vacant and for sale. This is a particularly delicate site based on it's location and accessibility.
